The Act establishes a mechanism for tech giants, like Google and Meta, to strike commercial agreements with Canadian news publishers. However, in response to the enactment of Bill C-18 in June, Google and Meta have shown resistance, with moves suggesting Canadians might soon be unable to access Canadian news content on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Google.
